The remains of Rome in Carabanchel are hidden under the ground of the Eugenia de Montijo Park, the grounds of the hermitage of Nuestra Señora de la Antigua and the ruins of the old prison. Others, lying almost in the open in a large field, are trampled on daily by the inhabitants of the neighbourhood. In total, the site covers about 44 hectares, which have never been scientifically excavated and are not protected as cultural heritage.
